"With the Speek covers we had an idea to make package like a book. I'd seen some vertical CD packages, but they tended not to have a spine. So we made many trials using clay, urethane, etc. to give the CD tray thickness, but they didn't look very beautiful. So we researched a way to make the tray with paper, and contact many printers worldwide and finally found a company that could realize our idea."

Book and cd album combo. music from the big pink is faction: real people like richard manual, rick danko, bob dylan, and albert grossman rub shoulders with fictional characters and actual documented events thread their way through the text alongside imagined scenarios. through the eyes of 23 year old greg keltner, drug dealer and wannabe musician, we witness the gestation and birth f a record that will go on to cast it's spell across five decades - bewitching and inspiring artists as disparate as the beatles, eric clapton, travis, wilco and mercury rev. thirty three and a third is a new series of short books about critically acclaimed and much-loved albums of the last 40 years. the authors provide fresh, original perspectives often through their access to and relationships with the key figures involved in the recording of these albums. by turns obsessive, passionate, creative, and informed, the books in this series demonstrate many different ways of writing about music. what binds the series together, and what brings it to life, is that all of the authors musicians, broadcasters, scholars, and writers are huge fans of the album they have chosen.
